Keeping water flowing: how our team jumped into action during a main break

When a water main recently broke late at night in a Roseville neighborhood, most people never even knew it happened. Before sunrise, crews were on scene, stopping the leak, protecting homes, and restoring water service before the day began. What unfolded over the next several hours was more than a repair job. It showed teamwork, preparedness, and pride in serving the city many of us call home.

The call that starts it all

It began just before midnight with a report of water rushing down a residential street. Within 30 minutes, the on-call water operator arrived, assessed the situation by flashlight, and confirmed a broken water main under the road. Valves were shut to stop the flow and protect properties while additional crews prepared for several hours of detailed work.

As the night went on, the response grew. Supervisors and managers arrived to support field teams and stage equipment. Excavators and floodlights were set. Crews cut through pavement and soil to reach the damaged pipe, pumped out water, and inspected the break.

 The fix
  • Isolated the main and protected nearby homes.
  • Removed the damaged section and installed new pipe and fittings.
  • Flushed and tested the line to confirm water quality and system performance.

Working through the night

By early morning, a second crew assisted with cleanup while repairs continued. As dawn approached, water began flowing again. By the time most residents started their day, service was restored and the street reopened shortly after.

Pride in every response

The quick response meant minimal disruption for neighbors. This level of reliability comes from planning, training, and a team that lives here, too. Our families use the same water, our kids attend the same schools, and our neighbors count on the same service.

Why it matters

Main breaks are rare. When they happen, our team is ready, day or night, to protect property, keep neighborhoods safe, and ensure water is there when it is needed. For us, reliability is not just part of the job. It is a promise we keep every day.
