Jill Geller, Director of Parks, Recreation & Libraries (PRL), has announced her intent to retire later this spring after more than six years serving the Roseville community. Geller joined the City of Roseville in 2019, following a distinguished 25-year career with Johnson County Park and Recreation District in Kansas. Geller leads one of Roseville’s most public-facing departments, overseeing parks, libraries, recreation programs, childcare, cultural facilities and community spaces that serve residents of all ages.
Under her leadership, the department earned national accreditation from the National Recreation and Park Association, an honor achieved by only 2% of park and recreation agencies nationwide, and was named a finalist for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management for four consecutive years.
Geller guided development of the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Strategic Master Plan and oversaw the opening of 21 new parks, including the Placer Valley Soccer Complex, a long-envisioned project that expands access to quality sports facilities and supports regional economic activity. At the same time, she prioritized reinvestment in existing assets, including major renovations to Weber Park and Johnson Pool and improvements to park and facility amenities citywide.
PRL also expanded its impact in culture and education. The department strengthened preservation and storytelling at the Maidu Museum & Historic Site, increased cultural arts programming and public art, and more than doubled annual library visits while expanding digital and remote services for the community.
Geller is known for her people-centered leadership, supporting a workforce of approximately 165 full-time employees and more than 700 part-time and seasonal staff while fostering a collaborative, service-focused culture.
“Serving the Roseville community has been a true honor,” Geller said. “I am thankful to work alongside staff who bring heart, professionalism and care to their work every day. PRL has an incredible legacy, and I look forward to watching this team continue to serve the community in meaningful ways.”
City Manager Dominick Casey recognized Geller’s leadership and her ability to move important projects forward.
“Jill’s vision, strong leadership and approachable style have been a real asset to Parks, Recreation & Libraries,” Casey said. “She advanced long-standing goals while keeping people and community at the center of her work.”
Geller plans to retire in late May. The City has begun recruitment for the next PRL Director to ensure a smooth transition and continued progress.
Please join us in thanking Jill Geller for her leadership, service and lasting contributions to the community and wishing her well in retirement.
