Fresh new start: Johnson Pool’s Grand Reopening

Updated June 05, 2025

For over a century, Johnson Pool has been more than just a place to cool off in the summer heat, it’s been a beloved gathering spot, a training ground for young swimmers and a historic gem rooted deep in the heart of Roseville. Now, after a series of renovations & improvements, this community treasure is ready to make a splash once again.

Mark your calendars! Join us on Saturday, June 14 from 1–4:00pm to celebrate the Johnson Pool Grand Reopening. This free community event will feature recreational swim, giveaways, family-friendly crafts and games, all while showcasing the exciting new upgrades that make Johnson Pool even more welcoming and accessible for generations to come.

Over the past year, the pool has undergone a wonderful transformation. These upgrades support the City Council’s commitment to reinvesting in Roseville’s historic core neighborhoods. New features include:

  • A zero-depth beach entry pool

  • An expanded deck

  • A shaded picnic area

  • Renovated restrooms and improved ADA accessibility

With these updates, Johnson Pool is now better equipped than ever to serve the community while preserving the charm and spirit of its more than 100-year legacy. Originally constructed in 1921, Johnson Pool holds the honor of being Roseville’s first public swimming pool. Named for David R. Johnson, who privately operated the pool until the City of Roseville took ownership in the 1960s, the pool’s origins are intertwined with the city’s railroad heritage.

As Johnson Pool reopens with a vibrant new look and the same welcoming spirit, we invite you to rediscover this local landmark. Don’t miss your chance to dive into the past, and the pool!
