The victim reported arranging to meet unknown suspects to sell two watches he had listed for $400 on Facebook Marketplace. During the meeting, the suspects provided counterfeit currency in exchange for the watches. When confronted, the suspects fled the area with the watches in their possession. Prevention Tip: When conducting online marketplace transactions, meet in a well-lit public location, verify cash before handing over items, and consider using designated safe-exchange zones at police stations. |

Operation Grinch is a retail theft enforcement operation conducted throughout the City of Roseville during December to provide expedited law enforcement response to in-progress crimes. During the operation, Retail Loss Prevention reported that two unknown female juveniles entered a retail location and selected miscellaneous merchandise, filling one shopping cart. The suspects then obtained a second shopping cart and filled it with additional items. Both suspects bypassed all points of sale and exited the store with the merchandise without paying. After apprehension and recovery, the total value of stolen items was determined to be $1,719.10 in one cart and $1,131.18 in the other. Prevention Tip: Retailers are encouraged to promptly report in-progress thefts and maintain active communication with law enforcement to increase the likelihood of recovery and apprehension. |

The victim reported attempting to make a small purchase on Sunday, December 21, 2025, when he received a bank notification indicating insufficient funds. Believing this to be an error, the victim reviewed his account and discovered approximately 90 to 100 unauthorized debit card transactions dating back to November 22, 2025. The estimated total financial loss was approximately $10,600. The victim stated he remained in possession of his debit card and did not recall making purchases on suspicious websites. Prevention Tip: Regularly monitor bank accounts for unauthorized activity and immediately notify financial institutions if suspicious transactions are identified. |

On December 18, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the victim was shopping at a retail location when she discovered her wallet was missing from her purse while approaching the checkout counter. Believing she may have left it at home, she returned to her residence. While searching, she received bank notifications indicating fraudulent card usage at Apple. The victim confirmed the wallet had been stolen, contacted her bank, and placed a stop on all cards. One fraudulent transaction for $1,721.84 was completed before the account freeze. Prevention Tip: Keep wallets always secured and immediately report lost or stolen cards to financial institutions to minimize potential losses. |

On December 18, 2025, the victim received a text message claiming to be from the Social Security Office, stating his Social Security number had been suspended and instructing him to call a provided number. During the call, the victim was asked for personal information and told he must pay fees to reinstate his Social Security number. Following the suspects’ instructions, the victim withdrew $3,767 in cash from one credit union, $13,058 from another, and $5,369 from a third, falsely stating the funds were for landscaping work. He was later approached by an unknown male who provided a six-digit code and collected the cash. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the victim received a follow-up call directing him to deposit an additional $1,100 at Walmart using a barcode provided by the suspects. Prevention Tip: Government agencies do not demand payment via cash, gift cards, or barcodes; report suspected scams immediately and do not share personal or financial information over the phone. |

The victim reported his dog went missing on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and he distributed flyers containing a photo of the dog, the last known location, his address, and phone number. An unknown female contacted the victim, claiming to have found the dog and demanding a reward. The victim agreed to a $1,000 reward and sent $500 via Cash App, with plans to pay the remaining amount upon retrieving the dog. After receiving the payment, the suspect threatened to rehome the dog if the remaining money was not sent, repeatedly pressuring the victim through calls and text messages. Prevention Tip: Avoid sending money to individuals claiming to have found missing pets without verification, and limit personal information shared on public flyers and online posts. |

The victim reported traveling northbound on Watt Avenue approaching Baseline Road when a pickup truck attempted to merge into his lane. A verbal and gestured exchange occurred between the two drivers. Shortly afterward, the suspect observed an object, believed to be a water bottle, thrown from the victim’s vehicle, striking the suspect’s truck. When both vehicles stopped at the intersection, the suspect exited his truck, approached the victim’s vehicle, grabbed the driver's side window, and shook it, causing the window to shatter. The suspect then fled westbound on Baseline Road. The victim continued northbound on Santucci Boulevard before pulling over to contact police. Prevention Tip: Avoid engaging with aggressive drivers, do not make gestures or throw objects, and contact law enforcement when confronted with escalating road rage behavior. |
