When selecting what park amenities should be included in a specific park site, we look at balance and access of certain park amenities nearby, emerging trends, cost/budget and current demand.  Specific to tennis, this map demonstrates close access (five minutes or less away) of existing tennis facilities from F-51. While tennis is one type of park amenity, it demonstrates the need of a bigger perspective, balance and fair access. To view the map please click here.

Gibson Drive Park Site (NCRSP 56)

Gibson Drive Park Site Master Plan

Location:
1001 Roseville Parkway.  Corner of Gibson Drive and Roseville Parkway.

Description:
The Gibson park site, located at Gibson Drive and Roseville Parkway is a 12.5 acre city-wide park site. City-wide parks are typically built in phases.  A master plan has been developed with the park’s focus on sports courts.  The park proposes to construct basketball, tennis and pickle ball courts, all lighted.  To address a need and high demand, the first phase is proposed to be install a number of  lighted pickle ball courts on the far end of the existing parking lot.    For those who have questions about lighting, below are examples of how current technology can focus lights on the actual playing surfaces and essentially cut all glare and spillage at the courts’ edges.   The schedule has yet to be determined, however, funding for this first phase was included in the FY2021/22 budget.  Updates to next steps will be provided via this web page.

Unscheduled Projects

Saugstad Park

Did you know that Saugstad Park is built on top of an old landfill?  Did you know that 95% of the park lies within a flood plain or flood way?  Over the last year, the City has been working to re-envision the park’s potential as a valued recreational asset that meets our community’s needs.  This includes how do we address the landfill, what types of amenities are acceptable to be in a flood plain and what types of amenities would we like to see built at the park?

To date, we have had three outreach efforts to seek feedback from residents.

  1. Meeting with the neighborhood association on March 28, 2019.

  2. Community feedback on August 6, 2019 during the grand re-opening of Johnson Pool

  3. Online resident survey in November 2019

The sketch is a proposed concept plan reflecting the feedback received so far.  Please review the sketch and provide feedback at yourlandscape@roseville.ca.us until August 31, 2020.

Concept Plan

Our next steps include:

  • On site investigation of the landfill to determine what type of material is buried

  • Based on the results, determine how to address the landfill (either remove or reinforce the cap)

  • Work with flood management and engineers to determine if a retention basin could work in this location. (If so, we might be able to bring a portion of the park out of the flood plain)

  • Refine a master plan for approval

  • Complete a hydraulic study and environmental clearance report

  • Develop construction documents

  • Bid and construct
