Roseville Mayor Gina Garbolino on Thursday helped demolition crews take the first bite out of an aging building on Vernon Street as part of a new public-private development project for Downtown Roseville.
The $19 million project to build a mixed-use office building and parking structure represents the first large-scale, multimillion-dollar private investment in Downtown Roseville since current revitalization efforts began about five years ago.
Garbolino was joined by other City officials and representatives from Kobra Properties/Vernon Street Associates, LLP and Roseville Arts! in a brief ceremony before the demolition began.
The “Demolition Day” in Roseville helped to kick off the construction project for a five-level, 550-space public parking garage and a four-story, 56,000-square-foot commercial office building near the intersection of Vernon Street and Grant Street.
The City-owned building at 405 Vernon Street was torn down to make way for the public-private project as part of the City’s ongoing downtown revitalization plans.
The parking garage is a five level, four-story facility that is being financed through the City’s Redevelopment Agency. It will be situated near the City’s Art Deco-style Tower Theater on the current Oak Street public parking lot. When completed, the $7 million garage structure will increase the number of parking spaces from the old lot’s 160 spaces to 550, an increase of 390 spaces.
A unique part of the parking structure project includes a 4,000-square-foot exhibit gallery for the Roseville Arts! organization on the ground floor.
Kobra Properties/Vernon Street Associates, LLC will finance and build a privately owned, four-story, $12 million office building at the corner of Grant and Vernon Streets, adjacent to the parking garage. The 56,000 square-foot building will provide mix-use opportunities with ground-level retail shops and office space above.
