House Committee's Letter to Secretary Chu
In his letter, Hastings said “The directives in the Chu Memo could considerably alter the PMAs’ primary missions of providing clean, affordable electricity to ratepayers and raise electricity costs on 40 million Americans.”
His letter highlighted an earlier letter sent by over 160 bipartisan Members of Congress expressing concerns with the directives outlined in the Chu Memo, and the House-passed bipartisan appropriations language prohibiting funding for any new activities in the document.
He also said, after these efforts by Congress, two full Committee hearings, and other Congressional letters of concern, “it is abundantly clear that there are many unanswered questions on the reasoning and implementation of this Memorandum.”
