If they see it, they'll take it. Please don't leave purses, backpacks or other valuable items visible in your car. Even if a backpack doesn't contain much of value, thieves will break your window to find out. Take purses, wallets and other valuables with you, and hide backpacks, duffels and other "mystery bags" in your trunk or covered cargo area BEFORE you get to your destination.
Beat 1 (northeast Roseville)
Olympus, vehicle burglary: At 7:15 p.m. April 4, a woman parked her car at the Miner’s Ravine trailhead and went for an hour-long walk with friends. While she was gone, a thief smashed her car window and stole her purse from the floorboard of the car. The thief soon used her credit cards to rack up charges at area stores. (2018-20337)
Reminder: Nice weather is prime time for thieves to visit trailheads and parks and break into cars. They know you’ll be gone for a while, and that you don’t want to take your purse and other valuables along while you walk, cycle or watch a game. If at all possible, leave your valuables at home, and take just the necessities, such as your car keys, your ID and your phone, along with you in a fanny pack, bike bag or small backpack. If you “must” leave valuables in your car, stash them completely out of sight in the trunk or a covered cargo area BEFORE you get to the trailhead. If you wait to hide your things at the trailhead, a thief might already be in the area watching.
Galleria-Harding, disturbance: At 10:11 a.m. April 4, officers responded to 501 Gibson Drive, to a report of a man banging on the door of an apartment with an axe. Officers located the man in his vehicle nearby and took him into custody after a brief confrontation. They arrested the 48-year-old Roseville man on suspicion of burglary, making criminal threats, vandalism and resisting arrest. The suspect and the victim know each other. (2018-20185)
East Roseville Parkway & other commercial areas: Thursday evening, April 5, someone went through restaurant and hotel parking lots along Roseville Parkway, Taylor Road, Douglas Blvd. and Fairway Drive and smashed the windows of several parked vehicles, stealing backpacks, laptop bags and purses. They were looking for, and got lots of electronics, including laptops, iPads and more. A suspect was seen in a white or silver 2007-2011 model BMW 7 series sedan.
Tip: Thieves have figured out that backpacks often contain electronics, wallets and other treasures. If you’re going out to eat, working out, going shopping, watching a game or just parking at home, please lock your doors and take your valuables with you. Please don’t leave any enticing “mystery bags”—backpacks, laptop bags or duffel bags—visible in your vehicle. If you have to leave valuables in your car, stash them totally out of sight in the trunk or a covered cargo area BEFORE you get to your destination.
Galleria, vehicle burglary, arrest made: At 9:03 p.m. April 6, officers responded to the 1100 block of Galleria Blvd. A victim returning to his parked car saw that its window had been broken out, and a man was standing next to it reaching inside. Officers located the suspect nearby and arrested the 19-year-old male, no permanent address, on suspicion of vehicle burglary. (2018-20771)
Beat 2 (east Roseville)
Johnson Ranch and East Roseville Parkway, vehicle burglaries: Tuesday evening, April 10, vehicle burglars visited parking lots at Hillsborough Park, Ray Lockridge Park, and restaurant parking lots along Taylor Road and Eureka Road. They smashed the windows of vehicles that had valuables visible inside, targeting backpacks, purses and electronic items (laptops, iPads and the like). They also stole backpacks containing school supplies (seeing the backpacks and not knowing what was inside, they smashed the windows and stole the backpacks to find out). Suspects were seen, described as black male adults in a gray four-door sedan, possibly a BMW. One victim’s credit cards were later used in Rancho Cordova. (several case numbers)
South Cirby, disturbance: At 10:24 p.m. April 10, officers responded to a disturbance and a woman calling for help inside an apartment at 1900 Cirby Way. Officers entered the apartment to stop the assault, and a woman fought with the officers. Ultimately they arrested a 20-year-old man from Roseville on suspicion of domestic violence and other related charges, and a 19-year-old woman from Roseville on suspicion of resisting an executive officer and an outstanding warrant. Meadow Oaks, drug arrests: At 1:48 p.m. April 8, an officer was making a routine patrol check behind businesses in the 900 block of Sunrise Avenue, and contacted a couple of people standing near their parked car. He found out the woman had an outstanding arrest warrant. A further search produced heroin, methamphetamine and paraphernalia. A friend drove up while officers were still there, and the friend was found to have a local warrant and to be driving under the influence of drugs with a small child in his car. Officers arrested a 33-year-old woman from Olympia, WA on suspicion of possessing drugs and paraphernalia, and an outstanding warrant from Napa County. They also arrested a 33-year-old Rocklin man on suspicion of child endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs, and a Placer County warrant. (2018-21110)
Sierra Gardens, shots fired, arrest made: At 1:43 a.m. April 8, officers responded to an apartment complex at 1605 Santa Clara Drive. Several callers reported shots fired. No one was struck or hurt by the rounds. Officers found out that there was a dispute, and a man had stood outside in the complex parking lot with a handgun, pointed the gun at an acquaintance, and fired shots into the air. He fled the area before officers arrived. On April 11, Crime Suppression Unit detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s home in Sacramento and recovered a firearm that had been reported stolen from Sacramento last year. They arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, brandishing a weapon, and possession of stolen property. (2018-21037)
Lead Hill, stolen car recovered: At 7:26 a.m. April 5, officers responded to a hotel in the 100 block of North Sunrise Avenue to check on a suspected stolen car. They found the car in the back parking lot, and a suspect ran from them. He was apprehended with the help of a police K9. Officers arrested the 27-year-old North Highlands man on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of methamphetamine and several other related charges, and returned the car to the victim. The car had been stolen from North Highlands earlier that morning. (2018-20397)
Beat 3 (central Roseville south of the rail yard)
Cresthaven, prowling: Overnight April 6/April 7, someone rummaged through an unlocked car in the 1000 block of Cirby Oaks Way. (2018-20909)
Cherry Glen/Theiles, suspicious person arrested: At 5:23 p.m. April 11, officers responded to the 600 block of Riverside Avenue, to a report that a man was following a woman down the street, prompting her to go into a convenience store for safety. Officers contacted the man, who was acting erratic. They arrested the 31-year-old Chico man on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. (2018-21855)
Beat 4 (central Roseville north of the rail yard)
Roseville Heights, brandishing: At 2:30 p.m. April 13, two men got into a dispute at the Amtrak Station, 201 Pacific, and one man reportedly brandished a knife at the other. Officers found the suspect on Main Street, and found he was in possession of alcohol in violation of the terms of his parole. They took the 43-year-old Roseville man into custody on a parole hold. Beat 5 (north central Roseville)
Foothills Junction, vehicle theft: At about 10:18 p.m. April 12, a man parked his 2006 black Nissan Sentra sedan in the Brickyard parking lot at Foothills Blvd. and Main Street, and left it for a few minutes. He left it running, keys in the ignition, because it had a low battery. While the victim was away from the car, a man got into the car and drove away. The suspect was described as a white male wearing a camouflage hat, black jacket and blue jeans. (2018-22184)
Highland Reserve, drug arrests: At 12:51 a.m. April 11, officers made a traffic stop on Pleasant Grove Blvd. and Highland Pointe Drive. A search of the car produced heroin, methamphetamine and evidence of drug sales. They arrested a 26-year-old Grass Valley man on suspicion of possessing and transporting drugs for sale, and Nevada County warrants. (2018-21677)
Stanford, theft: Overnight April 6/April 7, someone rummaged through an unlocked vehicle in the 6000 block of Big Bend Drive and took small items. (2018-20857)
Stanford, robbery: At 11:42 p.m. April 9, a restaurant in the 10000 block of Fairway Drive was robbed. The suspect was described as a Spanish-speaking Hispanic male, 5’6” to 6’0” tall, wearing all black clothing and a ski mask. He pointed what looked like a fake gun at the employees and although they didn’t speak Spanish, they understood him to be demanding cash. They didn’t give him anything, and he left without further incident. Officers searched the area but weren’t able to locate the suspect at that time. (2018-21473)
Stanford, attempted kidnapping (unfounded): On Monday evening, April 9, at about 7 pm, officers responded to a report of an attempted kidnapping of a 11-year-old girl in the large retail parking lot in the 6700 block of Stanford Ranch Road, between the Staples and Costco stores. The girl reported that a man she didn't know blindfolded her and walked her through the parking lot towards his dirty white panel van. The girl said she was able to get away, and she alerted her parents to the incident.
Numerous officers searched the area and conducted an extensive investigation, but were unable to locate witnesses, video surveillance of the suspect or other evidence connected to the incident. Detectives did additional investigation and, on April 13, concluded that the incident was unfounded and no kidnapping or attempted kidnapping happened. (2018-21425)
Beat 6 (west Roseville)
Woodcreek, DUI: At 2:21 a.m. April 8, officers responded to a solo vehicle crash—a car had crashed into a tree on Woodcreek Oaks Blvd. at Trailee Court. Officers investigated and arrested the driver, a 23-year-old Roseville woman, on suspicion of DUI. (2018-21040)
Quail Glen, vandalism: At 12:11 a.m. April 10, officers responded to the 7900 block of Robinson Drive to a report of suspicious noise, and found that someone had broken out the windows of a car parked on the street. A burgundy SUV was seen being driven in the area. (2018-21477)
Blue Oaks, theft and burglary: At 11:31 p.m. April 5, officers responded to a theft in progress on Indian Runner Court—a resident saw a man rummaging around in his unlocked car. The resident yelled, and the man ran off toward a nearby paved trail. The resident found a backpack and other property in some bushes near the trail. Officers looked for the man and checked the area for potential evidence. Officers later found out that some of the items found along the trail had been stolen from an unlocked garage on Indian Runner Court. Officers contacted the victim and let them know that their property was at the police department. (2018-20598, 20618)
