Look for the label

Each window is labeled with an Energy Performance Rating that displays the window energy properties. The key is to learn what to look for on this rating label when purchasing your new windows. When shopping, look for the ENERGY STAR® label which identifies products that save money and energy, and help the environment by using less natural resources. In addition, all ENERGY STAR® windows bear the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label. The NFRC is a non-profit public/private collaboration that provides non biased energy performance ratings for windows.
  • Windows must have a U-Factor of 0.30 or less AND an SHGC of 0.25 or less.
