Fraud |
4000 Block of Jerome Way |
The victim was contacted via WhatsApp and was told that his information/account had been compromised and that the suspect could resolve the problem and return any missing funds. The scammers convinced the victim to send an initial payment of $289, but later informed him that several more payments would be required before the problem could be resolved. The victim hesitated to make more payments, but he was convinced that since he had already made one payment, there would be a problem if he stopped. CRIME TIP: Spot imposters. Scammers often pretend to be someone you trust, like a government official, a family member, a charity, or a company you do business with. Don't send money or give out personal information in response to an unexpected request - whether it comes as a text, a phone call, or an email. |
