Fraud |
2000 Block of Ashton Drive |
The victim received an email asking him to send $30,000 to a bank in Singapore. The victim believed that the email address was similar to a relative’s email address and he thought he was helping a family member, so he complied with the request and wired the money to the specified bank. The victim then received a second email from the same email address as before, requesting that he send $14,000 to a New York City bank account. The victim also complied with this request. After sending $44,000 to two different bank accounts, the victim realized that the email address was not the same as his relative and that he had been scammed. CRIME TIP: Talk to someone. Before you give up your money or personal information, talk to someone you trust. Con artists want you to make decisions in a hurry. They might even threaten you. Slow down, check out the story, do an online search, consult an expert - or just tell a friend. |
