The victim received a phone call from a person/suspect that asked her if she had made certain purchases on her Amazon account and that there was an active investigation regarding her bank accounts. Victim told the suspect she had not made any purchases. The suspect told the victim that her bank accounts were compromised due to the Amazon purchases on her account that she had not made. The suspect transferred the victim to someone else who could help her. Victim was told to withdraw the money from her bank accounts to keep the funds secure. Once victim withdrew the funds, she was told to deposit the funds into a Bit Coin account. Victim was told the Bit Coin accounts were secure because it was endorsed by the federal government. Victim went to the bank and withdrew $35,000 out of her and her husband’s bank account. Victim went to two different Bit Coin locations and deposited $15,000 at each one. Bit Coin would not allow Victim to deposit more than $15,000. The victim spoke with her bank and was told she could not be reimbursed. |
