Protect your mail!
We've seen an increase in mail thefts recently. Especially now that it's tax season, and you're receiving and mailing sensitive financial documents, take steps to protect your mail. Empty your mailbox every day, as soon as possibly after delivery--never leave outgoing or incoming mail in the box overnight. If you're mailing checks or sensitive financial information like your tax return, we recommend handing it to your carrier or taking it to the post office for mailing. Call us immediately if you see anyone snooping around or prying a mailbox.
Beat 1 (northeast Roseville)
Galleria-Harding, attempted vehicle theft: At about 6:55 a.m. January 11, a man tried to steal an older Acura sedan from the 500 block of Gibson Drive. The car owner saw a man she didn’t know inside her car, tampering with the ignition. A witness chased him, and he fled in a red compact car. The suspect was a short white male in his 30s with brown hair, wearing a blue jacket with orange trim. He was accompanied by a female wearing a black jacket with a fur-trimmed hood. Several officers canvassed the area, but couldn’t find the suspects. (2018-2016)
Note: Car thieves often target older sedans, especially Hondas, Toyotas, Acuras and Saturns, because they’re easy to steal with a shaved key or other car thief techniques. If you own an older sedan, park it in your locked garage if possible, and protect it with a Club-type steering wheel lock. Thieves looking for quick and easy transportation will give your car a pass.
Beat 2 (east Roseville)
Johnson Ranch, garage burglary: Between 1:15 and 2 a.m. January 10, someone stole tools from an open garage in the 4000 block of Tilden Drive, and rummaged through an unlocked car parked in the same block. The victim had closed his garage door before going to bed, and we don’t know how it got opened later. A male suspect was seen checking car doors on the street and going into the victim’s garage. He was driving a white pickup. (2018-1971)
Johnson Ranch, mail theft: Between 8 am and 3 pm January 11, someone broke into a community mailbox in the 2700 block of Ashland Drive. (2018-2165)
Maidu, mail theft: Overnight January 12/13, someone broke into a community mailbox in the 100 block of Boston Commons Place. (2018-2507)
Cirby Ranch, suspected prowler/mail thief arrested: At 1:10 a.m. January 18, officers responded to Panorama Court, where a resident was detaining a prowler he’d seen snooping around the court and looking into house windows. Officers searched the suspicious man and found checks belonging to other people, mail stolen from nearby Greenborough Drive, burglar’s tools and methamphetamine paraphernalia. Officers arrested the 37-year-old Roseville man on suspicion of possessing other people’s ID and checks with the intent to commit fraud, possession of burglar’s tools, prowling on private property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Beat 3 (central Roseville south of the tracks)
Folsom Road, mail theft: Between January 10 and January 13, someone broke into a community mailbox in the 300 block of Shadow Ridge.
Beat 4 (central Roseville north of the rail yard):
Kaseberg/Kingswood, garage burglary: Overnight January 3 to January 4, someone broke a lock and got into a garage at an apartment complex at 700 Vallejo Avenue. Sporting equipment and household items were stolen. (2018-742)
Kaseberg/Kingswood, mail theft: Overnight January 10/11, someone broke into a community mailbox on Lancaster Court. (2018-2119)
Kaseberg/Kingswood, fireworks: At 7:12 p.m. January 13, officers responded to the neighborhood on the north side of Kaseberg Park for multiple calls about what sounded like shots fired. Officers checked the area and talked to some people who were on foot in the area, and determined the noise probably came from fireworks. (2018-2529)
Beat 5 (north central Roseville)
Foothills-Junction, burglary, arrest made: Overnight January 14/15, someone went into a fast food restaurant in the 5100 block of Foothills Blvd. and stole cash and other items. The officers’ investigation led them to serve a search warrant on a home in Citrus Heights, where they recovered stolen property from the business. They arrested a 24-year-old Citrus Heights man on suspicion of burglary. (2018-2869)
Diamond Oaks, garage burglaries: Overnight January 8 to January 9, someone went into a garage in the 300 block of Diamond Oaks Road and stole tools. The same night, someone also entered a garage on Cody Court through an unlocked garage side door and stole tools. (2018-1568)
Diamond Oaks, theft: Between 5 and 8:45 p.m. January 13, someone stole a gray Specialized Stump Jumper mountain bike from the bed of a pickup in the 300 block of Diamond Oaks Road. (2018-3271)
Diamond Oaks, burglary: Between December 15 and January 10, someone went into a home in the 200 block of Firestone Drive while no one was home, and stole household items. The burglar forced entry through the garage. (2018-1900)
Highland Reserve, shoplifting: At 12:55 a.m. January 8, officers responded to a store in the 900 block of Pleasant Grove Blvd. regarding two shoplifters who had just left the store and drove away in a white sedan. An officer stopped them on I-80 near Riverside, and arrested a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both from Citrus Heights, on outstanding warrants. Their car was towed and stolen property was returned to the store. (2018-1332)
Highland Reserve, mail theft: At 3:09 a.m. January 8, an officer was patrolling in the 900 block of Pleasant Grove Blvd., and saw a couple tampering with a cluster mailbox. He and additional officers detained the two and conducted a search, finding burglary tools and methamphetamine. The 35-year-old woman from Roseville and the 44-year-old Orangevale man were arrested for mail theft, prowling and other related charges. (2018-1341)
Highland Reserve, mail thefts: Unfortunately, the arrests of two suspected mail thieves on January 8 didn’t stop mail theft activity in this neighborhood. Between January 10 and January 13, thieves broke into community mailboxes in the 1100 block of Trehowell Drive, Capitola Court near Trehowell Drive, Avila Drive at Chase Drive and the 600 block of Tamarindo Way. Overnight January 13/14, three boxes in the 400 and 500 blocks of Shelby Ranch Lane were broken into.
NOTE: Especially now that it’s tax season and important financial documents are being mailed, make sure you check your mail every day, as soon as possible after it’s delivered, and never leave mail in the outgoing mailbox overnight. You might want to take letters with checks and financial documents, like your tax returns, to the post office for mailing. Call us immediately if you see anyone prying or tampering with a mailbox. Beat 6 (west Roseville)
Baseline Road, DUI collision: At 8:12 p.m. January 5, officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Baseline Road near Watt Avenue. A woman driving a Lincoln SUV had drifted off the roadway, through a fence and into a field, rolling the SUV. She went to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and officers cite her for DUI. Roseville firefighters made emergency repairs to the fence to keep cattle in. (2018-1031)
Woodcreek, pursuit and arrest: At 10:15 p.m. January 12, officers responded to a disturbance on Thunderbird Court. As they arrived, one of the men involved in the disturbance got into his car and fled, leading officers on a pursuit on westbound Junction Blvd. Officers placed spike strips on Junction Blvd at Park Regency, flattening the suspect’s front tires and slowing him down. He stopped his car on Baseline Road, just west of Junction Blvd., and was taken into custody. Officers arrested the 39-year-old Roseville man on suspicion of evading officers and DUI. (2018-2370)
Blue Oaks, robbery: At 4 p.m. January 11, three males robbed a man of his property at gunpoint as he was parking his car inside his garage in the 1600 block of Bushy Tail Street. They were described as three black males in their teens or 20s, with their hair in short twists. They left in an older gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with white markings or tape on the lower driver’s side molding. Detectives are actively investigating the case. (2018-2133)
Fiddyment Farms, homicide: At 11:09 p.m. January 6, officers responded to an altercation inside an apartment in the 2500 block of Hayden Parkway, and found an 18-year-old male deceased of stab wounds. A second male victim was also injured and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers arrested a 33-year-old male in the apartment on suspicion of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bail at the South Placer Jail. The homicide victim, the assault victim and the suspect were Roseville residents and knew each other. (2018-1200)
