Below, is an overview of the training: Solvi Sabol, from Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) provided an update on the Bucks for Bikes Program. Seventy-one people representing 46 businesses applied for the Bucks for Bikes grant program. Unfortunately, we were unable to fund all of the applicants; however, 24 people representing 21 different businesses in Placer County will receive a subsidy to help purchase a bicycle to use for commuting purposes. The businesses include: Adventist Health, Gallager Basset (2741 Douglas), State Farm Insurance, Hewlett Packard, All State Insurance (1025 Creekside Ridge Drive), Heald College, MUN CPAs (2901 Douglas Blvd), LPA Inc. (1548 Eureka), Save Mart, Roseville Police Dept., Kaiser, and Pasco. All of these applicants committed to registering and logging all their cycling miles on the May is Bike Month website and all have attended a Smart Cycling Clinic. Mike Dour, City of Roseville Bikeway Planner, provided a bikeway update on the following: - The recently completed Woodcreek North Trail project, a short trail segment that closes a gap in the trail system along the South Branch of Pleasant Grove Creek, and will have future connections to Foothills Boulevard near Telefunken campus.
- The recently completed Fiddyment Ranch Phase 1 Trail, a ½-mile segment of trail in West Roseville and North Roseville that is part of the larger Pleasant Grove Creek trail system.
- The upcoming Foothills Business Park Trail project, a ¼-mile segment of trail along Pleasant Grove Creek that is planned for construction in 2013 and will connect homes in north and west Roseville to the Foothills Boulevard business corridor.
- The upcoming Dry Creek Greenway Trail project, a 4.25-mile segment of trail along Dry, Cirby and Linda Creek that is planned for phased construction over the next 10-12 years. This trail will parallel busy Cirby Way and will provide options for cyclists in south Roseville who are trying to reach commercial businesses along Sunrise Avenue, Rocky Ridge Drive, Riverside Avenue, and Downtown Roseville.
- The Bicycle Friendly Business designation sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. Mr. Dour encouraged all of Roseville’s bicycle friendly businesses to apply for the Bicycle Friendly Business designation online at the League website. For those businesses that receive the designation, the City of Roseville offers to host a breakfast for bicyclists at that business, and to provide a couple of giveaways.
