What is a Transit Ambassador?
A Transit Ambassador is a volunteer trained to know thelocal fixed-route transit systems in south Placer County to help first-time passengers or passengers who have questions about using the bus. A Transit Ambassador offers assurance, experience, information, and a friendly face to new passengers.

Want to help people ride the bus?
As a trained volunteer Transit Ambassador, you have a great opportunity to make an important contribution to your community. There are many people in the Roseville and South Placer County region who could enjoy more freedom if they knew how to use transit systems. Your enthusiasm, smile, patience, and knowledge about using the local systems in South Placer County are everything you need to make a difference in their lives. In addition, as you help people get comfortable using transit, our environment benefits as the usage of single occupant vehicles decreases.
What are the responsibilities of a Transit Ambassador?
In addition to the criteria listed on the previous page, a volunteer Transit Ambassador’s responsibilities include:
- Attending two (2) to four (4) hours of classroom training, which includes learning to use transit schedules to prepare trip plans along with communication and customer service skills;
- One (1) to two (2) hours of bus travel with a trained transit ambassador to practice what you have learned;
- Volunteering at least five (5) to eight (8) hours or more per month by riding buses or visiting transit transfer centers to answer questions, talk with passengers, and offer assistance;
- Providing training to assigned passengers or passenger groups as needed;
- Helping a passenger or passengers plan trips;
- Wearing your Transit Ambassador apparel, visor, or name tag at all times when volunteering as an ambassador;
- Working one-on-one with new passengers with a goal of helping ten (10) new passengers ride the bus within one year;
- Attending volunteer Transit Ambassador meetings every two months; and,
- Submitting a timecard to the Transit Ambassador Program Coordinator on a monthly basis which shows volunteer hours, bus routes traveled, transit transfer centers visited and the number of passengers assisted.
