What's a walking school bus?
A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults.

  • Walk because it will keep you healthy!
  • Walk to meet new friends from your neighborhood!
  • Walk because it reduces traffic around school!
  • Walk because it’s fun!

Walking School Bus Day starts off on the right foot

Coyote Ridge, Quail Glen, and Heritage Oak Elementary Schools are teaming up with the City of Roseville to participate in Roseville’s 3rd annual Walking School Bus Days.“Walking School Bus Day.” Organized by the school’s parent-teacher association and staff from Roseville’s Public Works Department, Walking School Bus Day is designed to encourage families and kids to walk or bike to school in groups rather than driving alone.

Inspired by the rise in childhood obesity and the increase in traffic congestion around schools, organizers hope Walking School Bus Day encourages parents to walk with students more often. To combat the common fear that walking to school isn’t safe, City of Roseville traffic engineers helped school officials designate safe routes for the students to use when traveling to school.

“Having parents and kids walk to school on one particular day gave them a chance to recognize that they have many friends and neighbors living close by so they can walk together in the future,” explained Cervantes.“

City of Roseville staff establishes safe walking routes for all schools within city limits. “It’s a domino effect” noted Cervantes. “When more people are walking there are less cars on the road, which makes walking more attractive.”
