Traffic Engineering


Traffic Engineering deals with the planning, monitoring, geometric design and traffic operations of roads, streets, motorways, their networks and their relationships with other modes of transportation for the safe, efficient and convenient movement of people and goods. 

Roseville Traffic Engineering Section is divided into Traffic Operations, Traffic Studies and Traffic Signal Maintenance.

Responsibilities & Duties of...
 
Traffic Operations
•    Evaluates requests for installation of traffic signals
•    Implements traffic signal timing (length of green lights, etc.)
•    Plan checks and designs traffic signals

Traffic Studies
•    Evaluates requests for installation of stop signs, warning signs, speed limit signs, roadway striping, crosswalks and parking restrictions
•    Maintains the traffic accident database to identify locations which may have unusually high accident rates
•    Maintain vehicle volume counts for major roadways
•    Manages the city's Safe Routes to School program

Traffic Signal Maintenance
•    Maintain, repair and inspect traffic signals
•    Perform USA (Underground Service Alert) services for all traffic signal related underground

Real-Time Traveler Information
Real-Time Traveler Information - Roseville 
The City of Roseville's Real-Time Traveler Information web page provides local real-time traffic information, such as traffic congestion, roadway incidents and road closures, live video links to intersections throughout the city, and traffic volume and turn movement reports and graphs. Providing current travel conditions gives the motorist the opportunity to make informed decisions regarding their travel plans. Alerting motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, commercial vehicles, and transit operators of congestion by collecting, processing and disseminating real-time information is part of the City of Roseville's ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) Strategic Plan.

Live Traffic Cameras - Caltrans
Caltrans provides links to a number of the cameras that are located throughout the region. Check the cameras to see what the traffic looks like in a particular area. To view the cameras you must have the Real Player and the Windows Media plug-ins.

Calls go to voice mail. Roseville Police Department volunteers will check messages, route them to officers for handling, and call citizens back to let them know what happened.
