Operation Swim
Program Background Operation Swim was started in 2011, when the Aquatics Supervisor noticed that at a Family Swim Night, numerous children were swimming in their clothes because they did not have swim suits. Since 2011, Operation Swim has provided 142 children with swim lessons and over 200 children have received new swim suits and towels.
The Need Every child deserves to learn the life saving skills of water safety and swimming. Did you know that drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14? It can and should be prevented. Research shows that if a child doesn't learn to swim by the third grade, they likely never will. Teaching children to swim is a vital skill for drowning prevention along with other water safety measures that everyone can take to stay safe in and around the water. Unfortunately, many children in our community can’t afford a swim suit and towel, much less swimming lessons. Help us change that!
Many Benefits Our goal is twofold:
- Collecting donations of new swim suits and beach towels to give out to children swimming in their clothes. Donation locations include:
- Mike Shellito Indoor Pool
- more to come
- Accept monetary donations to help pay for swim lessons for at least 150 kids. For every $40 collected, a child receives a new swim suit, beach towel and swimming lessons!
Your Help All donations are accepted – you name the amount. Click the donate button to give online now or call us at (916) 774-5990 and tell us you would like to be a part of Operation Swim 2013.
Operation Swim is successful because of the generosity of our community sponsors. Thank you for your donation!
