We have some sad news to pass along.  Former Roseville Councilmember and long standing library advocate Martha Riley passed away peacefully Sunday evening at the age of 82, surrounded by her children.

Riley was elected to the Roseville City Council in 1982 becoming only the second woman elected to the Council.  She served until 1985.

Riley is best known for her tireless advocacy for Roseville's libraries, helping open the Downtown Library in 1979. She was also a founding member of the Friends of the Roseville Public Library and served as President of the organization for many years. Roseville’s newest library was named in her honor and opened in 2008.

Riley’s children are planning a Celebration of Life, to take place at the Riley Library the first weekend in June.  More information about the celebration will be announced as it becomes available.

Riley also served on the City’s Charter Review Commission, Grants Advisory Commission and Public Utilities Commission.
