Position Description:DAY CARE TEACHER
CITY OF ROSEVILLE ADVENTURE CLUBS

SALARY: $9.14 to $11.11 per hour
FINAL FILING DATE: OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT

THE POSITION
The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary part-time position of Day Care Teacher to work in the City day care facilities.  The normal work schedule will be weekdays between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under immediate supervision of Day Care Site Coordinator or Assistant Day Care Site Coordinator, plans, implements and teaches age appropriate activities and/or programs for elementary age children at assigned City day care facilities; in accordance with center policies and philosophy, responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:  Stimulates interest while teaching and supervising program activities such as social activities, low organized games, special events, arts and crafts, drama, and sports; maintains positive student relations and follows disciplinary procedures; maintains a safe, clean, orderly classroom environment; notifies Site Coordinator of any problems with regard to site maintenance, children and parents, and makes recommendations as necessary; promotes safety procedures around participants, and renders first aid as required; helps to maintain clerical records and reports as required; mentors staff in all aspects of classroom management, curriculum and team building; coordinates supply needs; tracks and completes subsidized child care paperwork; assist Site Coordinator and Assistant Site Coordinator and assumes role of Assistant Site Coordinator as required; and performs related work as required.
                    
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Education:  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by completion of twelve (12) units in early childhood education, recreation, elementary education, or related field, OR six (6) units completed and enrolled in at least three (3) units per semester until twelve (12) units are completed.

Experience:  Minimum of six (6) months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.  Experience shall be verified as having been performed satisfactorily at least three (3) hours per day for a minimum of fifty (50) days in a six (6) month period, as a paid or volunteer staff member, under the supervision of a person who would qualify as a teacher or director.

Knowledge of: Elementary aged child with regard to interests, special talents, handicaps, recreational activities, and program planning of such activities, i.e., sports, low organized games, special events, arts and crafts and drama.

Ability to:  Lead activities, applying knowledge to an actual day care program and the children therein; follow oral and written instructions; establish positive and professional relationships with children, co-workers and parents; be neat, orderly and honest; interpret policies and procedures; work at assigned locations from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays; provide own transportation.

On a Continuous Basis: Know and understand all aspects of the job; know, understand, and interpret department and program policies, procedures, rules, codes, and operational procedures; observe and evaluate staff performance; analyze and  solve department and program problems; explain department and program policies and procedures; sit at desk for long periods of time; walk to supervise children, participate with children in field trips, move furniture, or perform exercises with children; see to supervise children on playground; listen to participate in a conversation with a child/with parents.

Intermittently:  Twist to reach equipment or materials surrounding desk; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, talk, see and hear with sufficient acuity to successfully perform all aspects of the job; during special events may set up booths, hang banners, move tables, carry supplies, etc., with little or no notice depending on the event; push, pull, perform simple grasping, and fine manipulation; lift/move furniture/containers; reach to clean floors/to dust/to vacuum; bend to obtain equipment/to participate with children in physical education activities; climb ladder to obtain supplies; climb stairs; walk/run after child in hazardous situation; use telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means.

Working Conditions:  On a continuous basis, work indoors in an office or classroom environment; intermittently, travel to various program sites or other City facilities in vehicle; may be exposed to dust, constant noise, chemical solvents to disinfect surfaces, place hands in water when cleaning, moving objects or other vehicles, wet and slippery surfaces; may be exposed to varying climate and temperature conditions, including exposure to heat and cold, while performing duties.

License or Certificate:  Will be required to provide medical certification of health when certified for employment. Possession of a valid Standard Red Cross First Aid card will be required within ninety (90) days of appointment date.

SELECTION PROCESS
Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications.  Qualifying applicants may be contacted to interview.  Appointment is contingent upon passing a City-paid drug and alcohol screening test, pre-employment physical and a fingerprint check.
