Big Brothers Big Sisters: Provides a one-to-one friendship to boys (8-16) and girls (7-16), primarily from single-parent homes. The Big Brother or Big Sister does not replace the parent or other family relationships. They enhance family life by providing friendship, support and guidance. Male mentors are needed at this time for more than 50 boys in the community. Professional staff members carefully screen each match, and each relationship is continually supervised. Boys & Girls Club of Greater Sacramento: The Boys and Girls Club goal is to inspire all young people to realize their potential. California Veterinary Medical Association Disaster Response: Volunteers needed to help feed and take care of animals that come from a disaster and help people get animals to safety during a disaster. Child Abuse Prevention Council of Placer County: Advocates for children in Placer County. The Council works for justice, healing and the prevention of child abuse in all its forms. Friends of Placer County Animal Shelter: Works with volunteers to find homes for dogs and cats in the shelter. Volunteers are needed at the animal shelter in Auburn, at Petco in Roseville on Sundays, at The Cat House in Dewitt Center, Auburn, and for other activities. Junior Achievement: Works with volunteers to educate and inspire young people (Kindergarten through 12th grade) to value free enterprise, business and economics, and to improve the quality of their lives. Junior Achievement has an age-appropriate curriculum that teaches students the relevance of education in the workplace through simple business and economic principles. Volunteers receive training to prepare for the classroom. Commitment is up to 1 hour per week, for 5 to 10 weeks, depending upon the grade level.
