Beginning Tuesday, March 20, 2012 Roseville residents with active Roseville Electric accounts can exchange up to 10 incandescent bulbs for new ENERGY STAR® rated CFL bulbs. Roseville Electric hopes customers will remove existing bulbs and replace them with energy efficient bulbs throughout their homes.
To participate, customers must bring working incandescent bulbs to the Roseville Utility Exploration Center, 1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd., in Roseville’s Martha Riley Library to exchange them for up to 10 new, energy efficient CFL bulbs.
It’s easy to get free light bulbs! Complete a CFL Exchange participation card with your address and Roseville Electric Utility account number. Please bring your most recent Utility Bill or a California Driver’s License (for identification purposes only) and your incandescent bulbs to the Exploration Center. The staff will exchange bulbs one for one based on your lighting needs. Limit 10 bulbs, in any combination, per Roseville household.
Roseville Electric is offering two styles of CFL bulbs for exchange:
| Turn in: | Receive: |
Any type of incandescent bulb (excluding candelabra bulbs) | A New ENERGY STAR rated 15 watt CFL (light output equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent) |
A flood light style incandescent lamp - common in down spots and can lighting fixtures | A New ENERGY STAR rated 15 watt flood light style CFL lamp (light output equivalent to a 65 watt incandescent) |
The
remittance card asks customers to identify the number and wattage of the bulbs they are exchanging. This process helps Roseville Electric determine your energy savings. Please fill out your card completely.
Roseville Electric’s CFL Exchange is designed to get Roseville Electric residential customers to save energy by switching to CFL technology. A CFL uses less than one quarter of energy when compared to an incandescent bulb. To maximize energy savings, exchange lights that are used the most, such as kitchen, hallway and bathroom lights.
The CFL Exchange program is available while supplies last. For questions or other energy efficiency offers, call 79-POWER (797-6937) or email

Cost Effectiveness
One CFL can last as long as almost nine incandescent bulbs Choosing CFL cost less in the long run and saves energy (Comparison assumes a CFL with an average lifespan of 10,000 hours and an incandescent with an average lifespan of 1,000 hours)
Proper Disposal
CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury -- less than 1/100th of the amount in a mercury thermometer. To ensure your CFLs are disposed of properly, the City of Roseville will pick up your discarded bulbs. Contact Roseville’s
free hazardous and electronic waste pick-up service at (916) 774-5780.
If your free bulbs fail, return them to the Utility Exploration Center and we will exchange them while supplies last. If you purchased your bulb and it fails within the warranty period, return it to the retailer.
