YES Presents Student Awards
Seven local high school teams received cash prizes yesterday at the 2nd Annual Youth Energy Summit hosted by Lodi Electric, SMUD and Roseville Electric.
The teams were honored for their community service learning projects they completed following a 1 ½ day seminar held earlier this year on energy-related issues. The students who successfully completed the seminar also receive a college credit.
While the projects were completed by teams, the award amount will be given to each student. For example, the top cash prize this year was $1,250. Each member of Bella Vista’s team will receive that amount.
The other awards were: Casa Robles ($1,000), Grant Team #1 (750), West Campus ($600), George Washington Carver ($500), Consumes Oaks ($300) and Laguna Creek ($250). The Bella Vista team also received $100 Apple gift cards for being selected “The Students’ Choice Award.”
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and State Assemblyman Roger Niello presented the awards at a special event held on Earth Day, April 22 at the State Capitol.
Special thanks to WAPA, NCPA, Bureau of Reclamation, CA Fuel Cell Partners, SAQMD, ARB, Los Rios, CSUS, and CREEC for providing judges to review the student team projects.
