Assistance for Unemployed California Residents The State of California and partner organizations provide a wide range of services to help people who have exhausted, or may soon exhaust, their unemployment insurance. Unemployed individuals may be eligible for assistance to meet basic needs as well as other services such as health care, counseling, employment and training assistance. Some programs may have eligibility criteria.
California Job Journal Provides career and employment information and assistance for California businesses and job seekers, including recruitment campaign services, job search services, and a calendar of upcoming job fairs and other career events.
CalJobs Program operated by the California Employment Development Department that provides Workforce Investment Act job training and employment services to adults and youth. CalJobs helps employers find training and employees, and also offers tax credit programs for qualifying employees.
Elevate America Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced that the State of California is partnering with Microsoft’s Elevate America program to provide free technology training and certification to California job seekers. This training being offered through Elevate America can lead to employment opportunities and ultimately grow California’s economy.
Employment Development Department The California Employment Development Department (EDD) is a multi-faceted department offering a variety of services under the Job Service, Unemployment Insurance and Disability Insurance programs. As the designated agency for employment services and the nationís largest employment agency, EDD offers employers a variety of assistance, including job recruitment, screening and hiring assistance, tax credits for hiring targeted individuals, labor market information, and assistance with unemployment and disability insurance questions and concerns. Golden Sierra The Golden Sierra One-Stop Career Center system is available to employers and job seekers alike. The purpose of the system is two-fold. It is designed to provide workforce preparation services to job seekers increasing the employment, employment retention, and earnings of the local workforce. In addition, the One-Stops are to provide services to businesses that will enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the local and regional economy. Placer County Office of Economic Development The Placer County Economic Development Department provides demographics and special industry reports on-line. In addition, there are several programs and services offered through the County to assist both employers and those seeking jobs. (530) 889-4016.
Senior Employment Program The Area 4 Agency on Aging provides free job search assistance to seniors age 55 and older who live in Sacramento and Placer counties. The program is funded by the federal government pursuant to the Older Americans Act, as well as by private grant funding.
SkillsMatch from Prove It! SkillsMatch provides skills and behavioral assessments for clerical, software, technical, call center, industrial, financial, legal, medical, and other professions. SkillsMatch works with the Golden Sierra One-Stop Career Center System to help empower the local workforce.
Talent Transfer Program The Talent Transfer Program partners with local employers, unions, and other organizations to provide resources and training for dislocated construction workers. Sacramento Works aims to move workers laid off from construction into jobs requiring similar skills, such as public works, green job opportunities, and commercial construction with the help of “bridge” training (capitalizing on workers existing skills).
