| Are you ready for some football? If you plan to drink on Superbowl Sunday, for your own safety and the safety of others, make sure your game plan includes a safe and sober ride home.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), alcohol is involved in 67 percent of all traffic fatalities on Superbowl Sunday.
Roseville Police Chief Joel Neves said, "You can talk about arrest, prosecution, jail time, fines and insurance rate hikes for impaired drivers all you want. But it comes down to this: how would you ever live with yourself if you hurt or killed someone because you weren't stone-cold sober when you got behind the wheel?"
Fortunately, there is absolutely no reason to drink and drive, ever. You can:
- HUDDLE with your teammates before the game and designate a sober driver.
- RUN to the phone and call a taxi cab or a sober friend for a ride home, or
- PASS on going out, and enjoy the game at home.
If you do make the criminal choice to drink and drive, you might spend Superbowl night "off side" in jail. The Roseville Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies are deploying extra officers after the game to patrol for drunk drivers. Drivers found to be impaired by alcohol or other drugs will be arrested and taken to jail.
Funding for overtime DUI patrols was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Transportation, Business and Housing Agency.
