The Roseville Fire Department, along with PG&E, responded to reports of a gas leak at 406 Vernon Street in Downtown Roseville around noon today, July 25th.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Roseville Fire Department detected a high level of natural gas at the entrance to the building and an even higher level inside the building. They immediately began to ventilate the building to dissipate the gas. Gas levels inside the building quickly returned to normal reducing the danger of fire or explosion. PG&E personnel then found the source of the leak and fixed it.
The Roseville Fire Department evacuated the 400 block of Vernon Street for a little more than an hour as a precaution. Traffic was also diverted around the 400 block of Vernon Street until about 1 p.m. The business at 406 Vernon Street was closed at the time and no one was inside when the leak was reported. The Roseville Police Department also assisted in the evacuations and road closures.
Nearby businesses reported the smell to PG&E, who then contacted the Roseville Fire Department. No one was hurt and the cause of the leak is undetermined as this time. Four fire engines, two fire trucks and 22 fire personnel responded to the scene.
